Paula Scher - angles, type and post-modernism
Paula Scher has a hugely iconic style. Mixing angular typography, art deco elements and nods to the Russian avant-garde styles her work is popular and innovative.
Her Best of Jazz (1979) poster was considered radical and free-flowing yet the triangulated type and the bold colours reflect a purposeful rebellion against classic graphic design structure.

In 1994, commissioned by The Public Theatre, she created one of her most famous designs. The design has since influenced cultural and theatrical designs across the world.
Poster for Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk from 1995.
In 2002 Princeton Architectural Press published her career monograph Make It Bigger and Scher continues to work as a partner at Pentagram.
Across three decades Scher’s work has come to represent the very heart of New York culture, and her designs remain influential globally.
